Everything you need to know about using Gormat.
Getting Started
Gormat is an iOS app that helps you manage recipes, plan weekly meals, and build grocery orders — all in one place. You can scan recipes from photos or screenshots, organize them into a personal library, generate AI-powered meal plans, and send your shopping list straight to a grocery delivery service.
Gormat supports Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google. Both options are available on the sign-in screen. Apple's "Hide My Email" relay addresses are fully supported if you'd prefer to keep your email private.
Your recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists are stored on your device, so you can browse and cook from them without an internet connection. Actions taken offline — like marking a meal as cooked or checking off shopping items — sync automatically when you reconnect.
AI features such as recipe scanning and meal plan generation require an internet connection.
Gormat is currently available for iPhone and iPad. Android support is on the roadmap but not yet available.
Recipes
Tap the camera button in the center of the tab bar. There are several ways to capture a recipe:
In all cases, AI extracts the title, ingredients, quantities, and steps automatically. You can review and edit everything before saving.
The easiest way is to use the iOS share sheet. Open the recipe in Safari, tap the share button (the box with an arrow), and select Gormat from the list. The app receives the page URL and extracts the recipe automatically — no screenshot needed.
If Gormat doesn't appear in your share sheet, scroll to the bottom of the share options and tap Edit Actions to add it.
Yes. After a recipe is scanned and saved, you can edit any field — title, ingredients, steps, cook time, servings, and more — directly in the app. Changes sync across your devices.
The scanner uses AI and performs well on clear, well-formatted recipes. Ingredient quantities, units, and steps are usually captured correctly. Complex layouts, very small text, or handwriting may occasionally need a quick correction. Always review the scanned result before cooking.
Calorie counts and macronutrient breakdowns shown in the app are AI-generated estimates. They are a helpful rough guide but are not verified by nutritionists or lab analysis. Do not rely on them for medical or dietary decisions. See our Terms of Service for more detail.
Dietary filters (like gluten-free or dairy-free) are AI-generated best guesses based on the ingredient list. They can miss hidden allergens, misidentify ingredients, or fail to account for cross-contamination. If you have a food allergy or medical dietary restriction, always independently verify every ingredient before cooking.
Meal Planning
From the Plan tab, tap the wand icon to open the Meal Plan Wizard. Select recipes from your library (or let AI choose for you), set the number of days and servings, and Gormat will build a schedule and a consolidated shopping list. Multiple plans can run simultaneously — for example, one you're cooking from and one you're planning ahead for next week.
Yes. You can have multiple plans active at once. The Current tab shows all plans you're actively using — ones still being shopped for (Planning) and ones you've ordered and are cooking from (Cooking). Plans where every meal has been marked cooked or skipped move to the Past tab automatically.
On the Current tab, each plan shows its full meal schedule. Swipe a meal row to the right to mark it as Done, or swipe left to Skip it. Swipe again to undo. Once every meal in a plan is resolved, the plan moves to Past Plans automatically.
Staples are pantry items you always have on hand — things like salt, olive oil, or black pepper. When you add them to your staples list, the meal planner excludes them from your shopping list automatically so you're not buying things you already own.
You can manage your staples from the leaf icon on the Meal Planning screen or from Settings → Pantry Staples.
Yes. On the Past tab, tap any past plan and choose Use This Plan. The app will regenerate a fresh shopping list using your current staples and recipe ingredients, and the plan returns to the Current tab ready to order.
Yes. Meal plans, meal statuses (cooked/skipped), shopping list changes, and staples all sync across your devices. Changes made offline are uploaded when you reconnect. If the same item is edited on two devices before syncing, the most recent update wins.
Shopping & Ordering
Once your meal plan is ready, tap the cart button (the center FAB) on the Plan tab. If you have a plan in the Planning phase, the app will start the order flow. Gormat sends your shopping list to Instacart, where you can review and complete the order. You'll be asked to confirm once you return to the app.
Yes. Expand the Shopping List section on any plan card to review items before sending them to Instacart. You can check off items you already have so they are excluded from the order, and configure pantry staples (salt, oil, etc.) that you always keep on hand so they never appear on the list.
Once the order is placed, Instacart may adjust quantities or substitute items to best match what is available in your area. If you have dietary requirements — such as kosher, gluten-free, or organic — the app passes those preferences to Instacart so it can apply them when selecting products.
No. When you tap to order, you're redirected to Instacart's platform. Gormat does not receive your Instacart payment details, order contents, or purchase history. See our Privacy Policy for details on the affiliate referral data that is shared.
Tap the Reorder button on the plan card. This resets the order status and lets you send an updated shopping list — useful if you need to top up mid-week or skipped some items the first time.
